Mary Ellen Slayter is CEO of Rep Cap, which she launched after working as a journalist at The Washington Post and SmartBrief. She has a master’s degree in journalism from the University of Maryland and a B.S. in agronomy from Louisiana State University. Mary Ellen serves on the boards of the LSMSA Foundation and the Baton Rouge Gallery. She lives in Baton Rouge with her husband, two daughters and one lazy dog.
Lee Price is a Managing Editor at Rep Cap. If you need content therapy, she’s who you call. Lee always thought she’d be writing novels, but after graduating with a degree in English from the University of Virginia, she accidentally became a marketer. She has managed new online advertising products for SmartBrief, produced a YouTube series about temporary tattoos and ghostwritten blog posts for some of the best thinkers around. Lee lives in south Georgia with her husband and young daughter.
Dominique Rodgers is Director of Operations at Rep Cap, which means she runs the back of the house — HR, finance, plumbing and electrical. She has a degree in interdisciplinary studies from Louisiana State University, which makes her a whiz at trivia. She is also a certified SPHR and SHRM-SCP, which makes her a whiz at HR. She recently made her first foray into local government after winning a seat on the Democratic Parish Executive Committee in Baton Rouge.
Catherine Conlan is Staff Writer at Rep Cap. She has a degree in Russian language from St. Olaf College and more than 20 years of experience writing and editing at daily, weekly and monthly newspapers, magazines and news websites. Her main beats throughout her career have been business and health care, although she wouldn’t say no to anyone who needs a blog post about hockey. She lives on Minnesota’s North Shore of Lake Superior with her family.
Steve Masters is an Editor at Rep Cap. He has a journalism degree from Texas A&M University, and he wrangled words at five newspapers in four states before working alongside Mary Ellen at an online news aggregator in Washington. He’s a copy editor by trade and personality, which means he doesn’t talk much, so if you don’t hear from him don’t take it personally. He’s based in Austin, Texas, but prone to wanderlust.
Caroline Zaayer Kaufman is a Staff Writer at Rep Cap. As a general reporter, she’s written about everything from international incidents to modern dance. She has a master’s degree in journalism from the University of Maryland, and a B.A. in journalism and Spanish from the University of Nebraska at Omaha. She has taught English as a foreign language in Honduras and Uganda, and English composition in U.S. colleges. She lives in Omaha, Nebraska with her husband, son, a rambunctious dog and a grouchy cat.
